THE LAST LOST LUST LOT LOP LOPE EPISODE

So many of you know that I am a huge LOST fan. Ever since I found out season 6 would be the final season of this ever-so-confusing mindfuck that calls itself a TV program, I've felt like my life is suddenly going to become more an empty void than anything else. WHAT will fill LOST's place when it's gone? Who could possibly make better Jackfaces than Jack Shepherd? How could I go so long without wanting to punch someone named Kate? And when will I EVER get to meet someone who can come up with nicknames for everyone he meets after about two dialogue exchanges? I never will.

But about the finale. I'm not going to make any predictions since I'm never right when it comes to those kinds of things, but I want to talk about my top moments and characters, at least in this season.

Favorite Character: This is a tie between Jack and Ben. The final episode could change things in one direction, but I have to say that I love both these characters for many of the same reasons.

On one hand, we have the stereotypical good guy. Handsome doctor who can and will help everyone who so much as suffers a splinter. But unlike any comic book super hero, he genuinely struggles with his inner and outer demons, whether they're directly connected to The Island or not. He gets frustrated, stressed, and shows more weakness than some other half-men on The Island, and that uncertainly about his competency as our faithful hero makes him an interesting lead. A little side note: Jack was supposed to die in the first episode. Imagine that!

As for Ben, his transformation throughout the series is just fascinating. When he was first introduced as a conniving, lying kidnapper of infants, I didn't think there was a shred of decency in his being. But by the time we reach the scene where Alex is shot and killed, I knew then that Ben was much, much more than that. Much like Jack emerging initially as the cliched white knight, Ben should have been everything that a bad guy always is with his wormy looks and manipulative voice. But when it all comes down to it, Ben really just wants a family and to live peacefully on The Island. Moreover, Michael Emerson is absolutely perfect in every scene he does. With this season's Ben flashsideways with him explaining himself to Lana, choking back tears, I couldn't bear it. I was absolutely bawling. Even when he yelled at flashsideways Desmond not to hurt Mr. Locke, that subtle twinge in his voice told us that his character was thinking there was something eerie about what he was saying at that moment. (Rewatch that scene. You can READ it in his eyes without overselling it. How many actors are THAT good?)

Honorable Mentions: Desmond. He is the prophet in this great hero mythos that is Lost. And like the so-called heroes and villains, Desmond also plays a reluctant role. Plus, he ran over Locke with a car! A FRICKIN' CAR!

Favorite Death: Juliet. Yes, I hated Juliet with a passion. I really did. She was the most despicable character on there. I'm not sure if it was her condescending gaze or... no, it was her condescending gaze. And the fact that she married Sawyer. Most mismatched pairing ever. I cried bad fanfiction at that revelation. Good riddance to bitches being left out of 90% of the season.

Honorable Mentions: Lapidus. He didn't play a huge role in the series, but he did add an element to cool all the way up until the end.

Favorite Cameo This Season: From characters past (and passed), Charlie is my favorite cameo. I love Charlie because, like Hurley, he somehow manages to keep the series accessible without going too over the top in terms of comic relief. I was very upset when Charlie died three seasons ago, though we unfortunately saw it coming all season. It was good to have him back.

Favorite Flashback/Forward/Sideways: This is a toughy. I'm going to have to say just because it's fresh in my mind, Ben's flashsideways in this season. It was moving and well acted, and while it didn't answer many questions, it did bring closure to Ben's character in terms of how he really is a product of his environment. He's not innately evil or manipulative; The Island made him that way. Given the opportunity to lead a normal life, he turned out to be a very decent guy (albeit a bit pathetic in terms of his relationship with his Roger Workman).

Favorite Jackface: For those of you who don't know, Jackface is the face that Jack makes. Plain and simple. So my favorite Jackface will always be Jackbeard (see my icon).

So now it's less than 12 hours until the final episode airs. I won't be able to watch it until I get home from work tomorrow. (I'll be watching it from... um... my imagination! *WINK*) So I'm not going to check ANYONE's LJ until I've seen it. I'm not even going to check Yahoo's homepage in case they have an article on it. I don't want ANY spoilers.
